[Download] Big Quarters - "Grown Up" Feat. Sims (of Doomtree)
Its been a good minute since we heard from the midwest brothers Medium Zach and Brandon Allday b.k.a Big Quarters after the release of last year's album Party Like A Young Commie. Zach has been busy producing tracks for I Self Devine and soley producing Mankwe Ndosi's latest album Science and Spirit (great album!). But the brothers are back with a brand new EP titled Somos No Joke which contains 8 new cuts of that classic all heart sound that we expect from Big Quarters and features some sweet guest spots from Sims (Doomtree), I.B.E and Longshot.
The new EP isn't set to drop until the end of November (11/23), however, but have no fear you can hear the first single from the album "Grown Up" featuring Sims below and pick it up for free over at bigquarters.com. Those that were BQDirect subscribers (I miss those days) may remember the rough version of this cut which was released a few years back. Peep it.
[Watch] Doomtree - "Beacon"
Team The Best Team aka Wings and Teeth aka Minneapolis hip hop collective Doomtree return with a brand new video off one of my favorite albums of 2011 No Kings. Although the album dropped back in November, the Doom Crew have been busy touring in support of their latest record and if you heard it in all its epicness you would understand why. But even with their crazy schedule the crew still finds time to put out some awesome videos like their latest steampunk themed visual for the No Kings' cut "Beacon" directed by Bo Hakala.
This dark and gritty video is one of my favorite videos that the collective have put out to date. Although it isn't Har Mar Superstar getting down(to his bare ass, literally) to some "Bangarang" karaoke, this video speaks for itself on how creative these group of artist are and also showcases the always beautiful Dessa, Sims looking like a crazed maniac while Mike Mictlan creeping around in the shadows which I call an all around win. But anyways, enough talk check the video out above and if you haven't already picked up No Kings (FOR SHAME) do so here.
If you still haven't caught the group on tour like myself (I know sad, right?) you still have a chance to catch them at the following events:
Doomtree Upcoming Tour Dates
6/16 – Minneapolis, MN – Rock The Garden
7/13 – Dour, Belgium - Dour Festival
7/20 – 7/22 - Seattle, WA - Capitol Hill Block Party
7/27 - Somerset, WI - Sound Town Music & Camping Festival at Somerset Amphitheater
8/4 – Chicago, IL – Lollapalooza
[Watch] Doomtree - "Bolt Cutter" (Video)
AltPress debuts the first video from Midwest Hip Hop Collective Doomtree's sophomore album No Kings (which I have thoroghly bumping all weekend). Check the awesome video for the lava banger "Bolt Cutter" directed by Marijuana Deathsquads' Issac Gale. No Kings drops tomorrow. Do yourselves a favor and pick this one up. We'll have a review of the album for you up later this week.
UPDATE: Hear No Kings before it drops tomorrow via Spinner while you can.

[Watch] Sims - "LMG" (Video)
Yesterday was a good day for indie hip hop, Astronautalis dropped his new album This Is Our Science and the homie Sims of Minnesota rap collective Doomtree, dropped the video to one of my favorite jams off his latest release Bad Time Zoo, "LMG" (Love My Girl).
Sims and Lazerbeak bring in their buddy, Matt Scharenbroich (drummer of Lazerbeak's former band The Plastic Constellations) to direct this awesome little animated video. Sims explains how the video came to be by saying, "I usually have decent ideas when it comes to conceptualizing music videos, but this one was a challenge. The song itself is borderline cheesy as is, which is why Beak and I love it. We knew the video couldn’t be too cutsie and could absolutely not take place in a bar. After those parameters, we were out of ideas so we enlisted the services of Matt Scharenbroich, a really talented visual artist and the drummer in Beak's old band TPC."
Peep the video out above and also make sure you grab Bad Time Zoo, available now and the recently released free EP Wildlife. Sims alongside Doomtree member Lazerbeak and Cecil Otter are currently on their recent tour titled Good Time Zoo, check them out when they play your area. Tour dates here.

According to various Retweets on twitter, it looks like MPLS hip hop super group, Doomtree are back in the studio working on the follow up to their 2008 self titled album. According to Sims, if everything goes smooth we should have it late fall, hopefully, alongside the new P.O.S. album and Astronautalis and P.O.S. Four Fists album. Looks like its gonna be a Doomtree holiday season.
But that's not all the Doom crew's been up to. Sims, Lazerbeak and Cecil Otter are about to hit the road on the Good Time Zoo Tour with a few full crew shows in the mix, including one at the famed Red Rocks with SKoA Favorite RJD2. Peep the tour dates after the jump.
Lastly, we got a new previously unreleased tune from Doomtree member, Mike Mictlan, who we haven't heard much from since the release of his album with Lazerbeak, Hand Over Fist. Peep the Beatchefs produced joint "Cogs + Flywheels" in the player below, which you can download by naming your own price. DOOMTREE!
