[Sasquatch! Interview] P.O.S Talks Minneapolis Music, His Various Projects, Future Touring and More

Sasquatch! 2013 was a crazy experience. There were so many amazing performances, stunning vistas to bask in and tons of cool people to meet. One of those people was Minneapolis rapper P.O.S, a founding member of the hip-hop collective Doomtree.

After releasing his fourth album We Don't Even Live Here last October, P.O.S (real name Stefon Alexander) was unable to tour due to kidney complications. Now, he's slowly reentering the touring scene. If his performance at Sasquatch! was any indication, he seems ready to get back into it full swing. Before he hit the Honda Bigfoot stage on the final day of the festival, my friend Jon Riggs of MVRemix and I had the chance to sit down and chat with Stefon about a slew of topics. During the 12-minute interview, we discussed the Minneapolis music scene and Doomtree's place within it, the importance of embracing different genres and music styles, as well as P.O.S' numerous side projects and future touring plans. Stream the full interview below.

[Download] Big Quarters - "Grown Up" Feat. Sims (of Doomtree)

Its been a good minute since we heard from the midwest brothers Medium Zach and Brandon Allday b.k.a Big Quarters after the release of last year's album Party Like A Young Commie. Zach has been busy producing tracks for I Self Devine and soley producing Mankwe Ndosi's latest album Science and Spirit (great album!). But the brothers are back with a brand new EP titled Somos No Joke which contains 8 new cuts of that classic all heart sound that we expect from Big Quarters and features some sweet guest spots from Sims (Doomtree), I.B.E and Longshot.

The new EP isn't set to drop until the end of November (11/23), however, but have no fear you can hear the first single from the album "Grown Up" featuring Sims below and pick it up for free over at bigquarters.com. Those that were BQDirect subscribers (I miss those days) may remember the rough version of this cut which was released a few years back. Peep it.

[$FREE.99] Mike Mictlan (of Doomtree) - 'SNAXXX'

It's always awesome to be a Doomtree fan! Especially this year with the multiple releases that the crew has put out like Lazerbeak's Lava Bangers, the Doomtree crew album No Kings, Paper Tiger's Summer EP and free Beat Tape and the upcoming album from P.O.S. We Don't Even Live Here, it's hard not be excited and supportive of one of hip hop's best if not THE BEST collective there is out there. Why do you think they are called "Team The Best Team"?

In addition to all the releases I listed above, we get another album from Doomtree member, Z3R0K00L himself Mike Mictlan titled SNAXXX. The album is the first solo release from Mike since his collaborative record with Doomtree producer Lazerbeak, Hand Over Fist. However, unlike most of Doomtree's releases, Mictlan's SNAXXX features one cut of Doomtree production by Paper Tiger while the majority of the album is produced by newcomer 2% Muck (Tha Clerb, Spyder Baybie Raw Dog) and also features some of the midwest's up and coming rappers such as Lizzo, Greg Grease, Spyder Baybie Raw Dog and Freez but also features Doomtree partner-in-crime P.O.S. for 2 tracks on the album.

It's a bit of change of the normal formula that we are used to from members of the crew but it's still a dope record nonetheless. You can stream the album below and then head to group's bandcamp site to download the record for free or by naming your own price if you wish to show support. WHICH YOU SHOULD ALWAYS DO! So that dope artists like Mike keep continuing doing what you and them love and thats putting out good music. Need more convincing (you shouldn't) peep the awesome promo above.

You can also pick up the album in physical form in a sweet deluxe package of the album titled SNAXXX PAXXX, which includes an autographed 15 track CD, multi-colored screen printed t-shirt, 11x17 3D SNAXXX Magic Eye Poster, 2 different stickers, and a gummy pizza candy, all packaged inside of a special screen printed "MIKE'S SNAXXX" pizza box. There have only been 300 physical PAXXX created, so get your ass to the Doomtree Store and pick one of those up as fast as you can.

Mike will be on tour with P.O.S. in support of his new album We Don't Even Live Here dropping this month. Check out the tour dates after the jump.

[Watch] P.O.S. - "Fuck Your Stuff" (Prod. By Lazerbeak)

Just when we thought one taste from the new P.O.S. album wasn't enough, the Doomtree rhymespitter follows up his first single "Bumper" with his latest and I dare say greatest single "Fuck Your Stuff" produced by Doomtree's own Lazerbeak. On this new cut from the upcoming album We Don't Even Live Here, P.O.S. delivers some fresh anti-swag raps over a dope Lazerbeak trap beat stating "My whole crew's on some shit/scuffing up your Nikes/spittin on your whip" and shits on your typical, mainstream, radio iced out rap song.

Peep the video for new single below and make sure you pick up the new single on iTunes or Amazon. Then, take a ride in your 97 Honda Accord with your scuffed up Chucks or skate shoes and bump this joint as loud as you can. We Don't Even Live Here drops on Rhymesayers October 23rd. Pre-order the album now at Fifth Element and make sure you catch Stef on his upcoming tour with Bad Rabbits this fall. Tour dates after the jizzzump.

[Watch] Paper Tiger - "The Fortunate Wayfarer"

Doomtree producer/DJ Paper Tiger just released his new Summer EP earlier this week and to celebrate the release Papes has dropped a new video for one of the album cuts, "The Fortunate Wayfarer." Witness the journey of a boombox who heads to the carnival and has the time of his life and watches the fireworks with several other machines like a Ms. Pac Man and Galaga Arcade cabinet. I know, it sounds strange but its pretty awesome and also makes you want to go to a carnival right after. Mmmmm Cotton Candy...

Pick up Paper Tiger's Summer EP now via iTunes, the Doomtree Store or below via Paper Tiger's Bandcamp. Team The Best Team stays winning.
