LET’S GO!
Chicago’s finest Whethan has returned with his first release since dropping his debut album, Life of a Wallflower Vol. 1 last year. With this new track, “Win You Over”, Whethan has joined forces with Norwegian’s Bearson to craft a glittering electro-pop jam before enlisting the likes of Irish singer SOAK, taking the track to a next level bop.
Whethan and Bearson first connected several years ago through Bearson's Next Wave Records label, which has been the launching pad for artists like Atlas Bound, Jimi Somewhere and more. Between the two of them, they've collaborated with or produced music for headlining artists and emerging talent alike.
After wrapping up last year’s Life Of A Wallflower tour, Whethan currently only has a handful of dates coming up including appearances at Lollapalooza.
Whethan Tour Dates:
April 16th: Avila Beach, CA @ Avila Beach Gold Resort
April 17th: San Jose, CA @ San Jose State Event Center
April 19th: Santa Barbara, CA @ Santa Barbara Bowl
August 1-4: Chicago, IL @ Lollapalooza
[SONG OF THE DAY] Emotional Oranges - "Built That Way"
Los Angeles…duo? I’m pretty sure they’re a duo. However many humans comprise the mysterious LA outfit, Emotional Oranges officially have priority over my ears moving forward. With their latest track, “Built That Way”, the R&B-centric collective are throwing upbeat groove-filled vibes that are akin to early Lauryn Hill and Erykah Badu. Following earlier songs, “Corners Of My Mind”, “Hold You Back”, “Personal”, and “Motion” (as heard as the theme song of RuPaul’s Drag Race last season), the song is about being completely transparent with your significant other, even when the truth hurts.
May 10th sees the arrival of their debut 8-song compilation, The Juice: Vol I, which will feature the aforementioned tracks along with some delicacies we haven’t yet sampled. Following the EPs release, the band will be hitting the road for some select dates in North America and Europe. Tickets for the shows go on sale this Friday at 10AM local time over on their website.

[SONG OF THE DAY] Novaa - "HMLTM"
Berlin alt-pop artist Novaa has shared the video for her latest single, “HMLTM”, off her forthcoming self-titled debut full length, which is slated for an April 26th release. The song tackles the singers personal battle with bulimia and her journey toward self-acceptance.
As she told Complex, "There was a time in my teens when I didn't like my body and didn't treat it in a loving way. That included my eating and exercise habits, how much I worked and how little I rested, the way I looked at and talked to it and it also included that I felt ashamed for getting physical with others. As I recovered from bulimia and healed the connection between my mind and body again, I also learned how to value, appreciate and take care of it again. Writing 'HMLTM' was my way of manifesting how to treat my body and its needs in a caring and loving way.”
She continued, "'HMLTM' might come off as an ordinary song about getting physical with someone and actually that's exactly what it's meant to be. Often as a woman it's not considered to be ordinary or normal to talk about your physical needs and your sexuality without feeling ashamed for it. With 'HMLTM' I wanted to write a song that is upfront and talks open about it."
[SONG OF THE DAY] Touch Sensitive - "Unconditional (feat. Kitten)"
Touch Sensitive has finally made an appearance in 2019, further confirming that at the rate we’re going this year that compiling my year end list is going to be so overwhelming. His first offering of 2019 is a collaboration with Chloe Chaidez of Kitten and Nasty Cherry fame. “Unconditional” is a casual flex for Touch Sensitive (born Michael Di Francesco), showcasing his knack for crafting spacious slightly nostalgia-twinged soundscapes that will have you grooving from dawn to dusk.
Although he’s currently galavanting around Los Angeles at the moment, it is with the heaviest of hearts that I must report his only upcoming shows are all in Australia (and during birthday month no less, further rubbing salt in the wound).
[SONG OF THE DAY] Pat Lok - "Don't Think (feat. Tom Aspaul)"
It would appear that Vancouver vibe maker Pat Lok is going through our mutual Twitter follows for all his current collaborations. After working with the dude Dances on “From The Back”, Pat has now teamed up with my roommate in a parallel universe, Tom Aspaul, for his latest track, “Don’t Think”.
Drawing inspiration from legendary diva Janet Jackson, Lok explained how her music was a source of inspiration for both him and Tom, “As a big Janet Jackson fan growing up (she's actually on the shirt I'm wearing right now) I loved how she walked the line between really dancey songs and more groovy numbers. I met Tom Aspaul in London who was also a fan and we ended up writing this little number inspired by the queen.”
I’m happy to report that Pat has taken time off from his grueling international tour schedule and is currently in the studio working on a new EP to bless us with this spring. 🙌🏻🙌🏻
[SONG OF THE DAY] Mickey Kojak - "It's Gonna Be Okay (feat. Jake Stone)"
VIBE O CLOCKKKK ON FRIDAY
WE MADE IT Y’ALL!!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
HERE WE GOOOOO!
Sydney synthpop artist Mickey Kojak has unveiled his latest track, “It’s Gonna Be Okay” featuring vocal stylings of Jake Stone (Bluejuice). Fun true story: the two got together after Jake commented on a festival video of Mickey performing his latest single, “All That Acid”. Stone came to a show where the two got well acquainted before holing up in Mickey’s Sydney studio. Each recording session came with a martial arts lesson, which from all reports were short-lived and always ended with Mickey being grappled to the ground.
…..yo but is there footage of this tho? LOL
Mickey is prepping to hit the road next month in support of his forthcoming EP Together. More details forthcoming.
[SONG OF THE DAY] Moontower - "Lay With Me"
LA trio Moontower have resurfaced with a new single, “Lay With Me” and an accompanying “official world record breaking'“ lyric video. Said record breaking video the band each crushing a bag of Lay’s potato chips in four minutes and seven seconds (paired with….Sunny D? 🤢imma pray for y’all what the actual fuck lol).
The band is hitting the road on the west coast with The Driver Era starting on Monday. More informations is available over on their website.
I’m still thinking about what salt & vinegar chips paired with Sunny D tastes like and like
[SONG OF THE DAY] SG Lewis X Clairo - "Throwaway"
Last week British producer SG Lewis unveiled a new track, “Throwaway”, from the third and final installment of his Dusk Dark Dawn series featuring vocal stylings of viral sensation and good friend to SG, Clairo. As the theme of the series has gone, “Throwaway” is this hazy glimmering downtempo production on its own, only to be further elevated by Clairo’s sugary sweet vocals. Fitting perfectly with the Dawn aesthetic, it’s reminiscent of the first few moments of sunrise.
Speaking on the track, SG shared, “Throwaway was written in LA one evening - we were both super tired and had some shit going on in our respective personal lives. We sat and talked for ages, and after that Throwaway flowed out in no time at all. Clairo is such a special artist and an incredible songwriter, and I'm super proud of this song.”
If you’re prepping to don a flower crown and dance your cares away in Indio at Coachella next month, be sure to catch SG Lewis’ set as he’ll be playing both weekends. In addition to the festival appearance, he’ll also be performing in support of Jaden Smith at Shrine Expo Hall in LA on April 16th. More info below!
