[SONG OF THE DAY] Husky Loops - "Everyone Having Fun Fun Fun But Me"

Oh happy day! Husky Loops are back and they brought a MOOD along with news about their forthcoming debut full-length. The new track, “Everyone Having Fun Fun Fun But Me” is the anxiety laden anthem I didn’t realize was missing from my life until it hit my eardums. Throughout the song frontman Pier Danio Forni essentially walks through the ways that anxiety can take a toll on your life. The chorus is a bit of a snapshot of the frantic thoughts that swirl through an anxious mind. Ironically enough I find repetitiveness of the chorus to be really relaxing. Dis why I fux with Husky Loops. Clever clever lads.

“Everyone Having Fun Fun Fun But Me” is our second taste from their debut LP, I Can’t Even Speak English, which will be out on August 14th courtesy of Fighting Ourselves / 30th Century Records. The album title is obvi a nice little chuckle at their own expense, given that the now London based band grew up in Italy. Tracklisting and artwork for the album is below. Gonna be honest, REALLY CURIOUS ABOUT WHAT A SONG CALLED “FUCK ME NATURALLY” SOUNDS LIKE.

I Can’t Even Speak English tracklisting

  1. A message from Lily to a friend – Intro

  2. Good As Gold

  3. Yes I Know What I’m Gonna Do

  4. Temporary Volcano

  5. Enemy Is Yourself

  6. Let Go For Nothing

  7. The Reasonable Thing

  8. Slippin’

  9. A Little Something

  10. FredAgain_niceboy – Snippet

  11. Fuck Me Naturally feat. Mother MaryGold

  12. Everyone’s Having Fun Fun Fun But Me

[SONG OF THE DAY] Big Data - "Put Me To Work"

Black Mirror popstar Big Data resurfaced with a brand new track from his forthcoming sophomore LP, 3.0. This new song, “Put Me To Work” while in the same vein of his well-known digital dystopian subject matter, is this time from the perspective of the robot rather than his semi-regular human-centric point of view. This is actually a really clever move on project mastermind Alan Wilkis’ part because the observations that we can take away from this perspective are really quite interesting. The robot mostly gushes about how eager it is to be put to work and all the ways it will be beneficial to the human it’s presumably addressing. Then almost in the same breath the robot is singing a different tune, alluding to replacing humanity without any regard of our collective well being. Maybe Mayer Hawthorne should be co-writing with Alan more often if songs like this are the fruits of their collective labor.

Tell you what, I’d love to put Alan Wilkis and Roman Rappak of Miro Shot in a room together and facilitate a lengthy chat about technology. Given how drastically their respective projects envision technology’s impact on society, it certainly wouldn’t be a boring discussion by any means.

PS - still no word on an actual release date or any other details about the elusive 3.0, but you know who will be more than happy to keep you posted once that info is readily available.

[SONG OF THE DAY] Beck - "Saw Lightning"

lol of course you knew I was going to excitedly smash into my keyboard about this.

My most favorite person in the entire world blessed us yesterday with a brand new single and the delightful news that his 14th studio album, HYPERSPACE, is coming FROM THE FUTURE (press releases actual words).

Technically, aren’t all albums coming from the future? I guess technically for this one it’s all the more accurate because per Beck’s conversation with Zane Lowe yesterday on Beats1 that the record isn’t actually done yet.

I don’t think this is going to be another “Dreams” situation. When that was dropped in 2015 there was no naming of an upcoming album, etc. We had to wait 2 damn years between that dropping for him to release Colors. Even still, it would be very polite of him for us to have more than one new song to lose our minds to on this upcoming co-headlining tour of his with Cage The Elephant.

At any rate, “Saw Lightning” is warming up all the cells in my body that tingle for Midnite Vultures, Odelay, and Guero. THE SLIDE GUITAR AND HARMONICA ARE BACK!!! Makes yer girl wanna go out and get a black cowboy hat much like the one he wore in the “Devils Haircut” video, but maybe bling it out a fuckload.

The track was produced and written by Beck and Pharrell, a collaboration that apparently was 20 years in the making. Pharrell is also credited on the track for drums, keyboards, and…..mumbles.

Mumbles. This is probably my favorite credit of all time.

As can be expected, I will now be spazzing every time dad breathes on Instagram or anywhere else hints of HYPERSPACE may surface.

[SONG OF THE DAY] Holy Ghost! - "Escape From Los Angeles"

Holy Ghost! are finally done being a tease and have announced that they will be releasing their third album Work on June 21st on the iconic West End Records. Fun fact: Work will be the first full-length LP to drop on the iconic label in more than 30 years. Kind of a big deal. Get it, fellas!

On the heels of the announcement the duo have shared a new track, “Escape From Los Angeles”. As is the standard with Holy Ghost! songs it’s one of those smooth as hell floor filling nu-disco numbers that you could dance all night to, literally. Even with it clocking in at a good seven minutes and change it’s basically the perfect tempo so you could effortlessly dance into the wee hours of the morning if someone decided to get weird and do like a 20 minute extended edit of the track, which tbh I’d fuck with.

To make things even more wonderful, the band has announced a handful of dates, including an album release show at my all time favorite venue, Bowery Ballroom. Bet your buns imma be there wearing a hole in the dance floor.

Upcoming Holy Ghost! Live Shows:

04-26 San Francisco, CA - The Independent

04-27 Los Angeles, CA - Globe Theatre

05-03 Washington, DC - U Street Music Hall

05-09 Guadalajara, México - Corona Capital at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez

06-21 New York, NY - Bowery Ballroom (Album Release Show)

[LISTEN] I Know Leopard - 'Love Is A Landmine' (Full Album Stream)

With just a few days until Sydney quartet I Know Leopard release their debut full length album, Love Is A Landmine the folks over at that blog aggregator who refuses to acknowledge the website you are reading’s existence for 9 years and counting have graciously premiered a full album stream to hold you over until Friday.

Y’all, this record. *chef’s kiss* It’s just so damn lovely. Literally. As previously mentioned lead vocalist Luke O’Loughlin has discussed how the album is about the different aspects of love. "I’d be lying if I said it wasn't an album full of love songs,” he explained, “But not always in the classic romantic sense. It reflects on experiences where attempts at love are met with confusion, pain and alienation. The record also explores the importance of learning to love yourself before you can successfully love someone else."

Without a doubt I can confidently say that Love Is A Landmine is the glimmering slice of lovestruck indie pop perfection that your ears very desperately need to have in their life immediately.

FYI there’s still time to pre-order the album over on their website. I will most likely be treating myself to an early birthday present with the tote + LP bundle should you want to follow my lead.

[SONG OF THE DAY] Mickey Kojak - "It's Gonna Be Okay (feat. Jake Stone)"

VIBE O CLOCKKKK ON FRIDAY

WE MADE IT Y’ALL!!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

HERE WE GOOOOO!

Sydney synthpop artist Mickey Kojak has unveiled his latest track, “It’s Gonna Be Okay” featuring vocal stylings of Jake Stone (Bluejuice). Fun true story: the two got together after Jake commented on a festival video of Mickey performing his latest single, “All That Acid”. Stone came to a show where the two got well acquainted before holing up in Mickey’s Sydney studio. Each recording session came with a martial arts lesson, which from all reports were short-lived and always ended with Mickey being grappled to the ground.

…..yo but is there footage of this tho? LOL

Mickey is prepping to hit the road next month in support of his forthcoming EP Together. More details forthcoming.
