[SKOA Premiere] Bedroom - "In my Head"
Bedroom, the bedroom-born project of Nashville resident Noah Kittinger, has been featured numerous times on SKOA ever since he appeared on our radar almost one year ago, and for good reason. Although still a high school student, Bedroom's sound and talent is beyond his years. Kittinger consistently impresses, employing a diverse array of sounds and inspirations that encapsulate the atmospheric haziness and angst many of us felt yet maintaining a cohesion that grounds the sounds in reality. Through reverbed vocals with guitar in hand, the young artist draws you in to his simple yet engaging compositions, and his latest single "In my Head" does not stray from that formula, a formula that he has proven and solidified. As always, we are pleased to premiere the newest release from Bedroom's growing catalogue.
Beginning with a solitary, sullen acoustic guitar riff, "In my Head" is simple in its execution, and it is in this that it works so well. Kittinger's vocals drift in and out seamlessly, as if in a dream-like trance, with echoing synthesizers pulling your attention deeper into the song; "In my Head" exemplifies what Bedroom does best. Stream the song below, and head over to Bedroom's SoundCloud page or Bandcamp page to download the track for free.
[SKOA Premiere] Alan Wilkis - "Stay Forever feat. Paul Holmes (Vasili Gavre Remix)"
SKOA favorite Alan Wilkis was gracious enough to think of us to premiere NYC producer Vasili Gavre's remix of the third installment from his PRINTS series, "Stay Forever" which features vocals from Paul Holmes, who you may know from his projects The Tells or Adrienne Drake. If you have already been enjoying this track as much as we have, this reworked nugget from Gavre is a surefire way to keep you on your PRINTS love fest while we all anxiously for the next track to drop. The change up to the phrasing on the vocals will initially catch you off guard, but it encourages your ears to listen in different corners of the original that you hadn't thought to appreciate before, which is something I always love about good remixes. If you enjoyed Gavre's remix as much as I did, you should check out the band he's in called Americans In Paris. As far as what's next for the PRINTS series, Wilkis told us that in the coming weeks that he'll be shooting a music video for "Stay Forever", so be on the lookout for that soon.
In other Wilkis-related news, he's currently wrapped up a new remix for The Hood Internet's new album and has started working on a project with Dan Armbruster of Joywave. According to Wilkis, "[The project is] still in the early stages there, but we're psyched about it!" As you can probably guess, when there are updates of any of the aforementioned news items you will be able to learn more right here.
Enjoy the "Stay Forever" remix by Vasili Gavre as well as the original and the additional remix of the song done by You & The Night & The Music in the player below. Make sure to grab any and all tracks that you like for the actual retail price of $FREE.99!
[SKOA Premiere] Ace Reporter - "Untouched And Arrived"
With the slew of bands hustling to make a name for themselves in a place like New York, it becomes a seemingly impossible task to sift through it all to find the diamonds in the rough. Take for example, Brooklyn based band Ace Reporter, who I share the same stomping ground of a borough with. I was completely unaware of their existence until just recently. Once I laid ears on "Untouched And Arrived", however, I had to have the full lowdown on these guys. The story goes that after his former band The States broke up, longtime musician and frontman for Ace Reporter, Chris Snyder spent all of 2010 writing and recording a song per day, which he appropriately dubbed the threesixfive project. From there, Snyder took the best songs from all 365 of his creations and throughout the spring of 2011 poured over the songs to see if he could transform them beyond their inception. The results of his refining eventually were shaped in the form of his upcoming full-length debut, Yearling, which is slated for a February 2013 release.
"Untouched And Arrived" was a already a gem of a song as you can hear from the threesixfive version. Clearly Snyder took a lot of elbow grease to it in order to give it the polish and sparkle that it rightfully deserved. The final product is crisp like an early autumn morning and the vibrato in his vocals during the chorus are sure to send a slight bit of goosebumps down the side of your body. I am anxious to hear more from Yearling as we are still a few months out of February, but for now will be more than satisfied to come back to this song again and again.
Have a listen and download "Untouched And Arrived".
