[Watch] The Mars Volta - "The Malkin Jewel" (Official Video)

When you make a music video these days people go down one of a few routes. Shock and awe, comical, going down the animated road also seems a popular choice as of late, but when a band such as The Mars Volta make not just a video, but a 15-minute monster for "The Malkin Jewel" they keep it elegantly simple. The video focuses on the band performing live which in itself is a spectacle large enough to grasp your attention for the full 15 minute. Kudos to them for doing it this way and being such a great performing band. (via SPIN.com).

Noctourniquet, is out now.

The weekend is here and the days are getting longer, what better way to fill those nights that with some new music? Stellar. It's set for release next week on March 26th, but treat yourself to a listen over on The Rolling Stone.

[News] The Mars Volta Announce Sixth Studio Album, 'Noctourniquet' With Artwork, Tracklist

The Mars Volta have wrapped up their sixth studio album and are currently prepping for its release on March 27th, 2012, courtesy of Warner Bros. The album is called Noctourniquet and follows their 2009 release Octahedron and (as per usual) written by Omar Rodrigues-Lopez (who also produced the album) and Cedric Bixler-Zavala. The band has also revealed both the artwork and tracklisting for the album over on their official website, which we have grabbed a screen shot for the sake of your instant gratification.

Our friends over at Antiquiet have snagged some live footage of songs that will supposedly be on the new record, so you will want to check those out as well if you haven't already.

[News] Members of Mastodon, Dillinger Escape Plan, Mars Volta and Janes Addiction Forming New Band

Yes. That title is correct. Stop rubbing your eyes in disbelief, 'cos if what Brent Hinds has been talking about is true our ears are soon to be bleeding to the sound of a new band. Via Noisecreep and our buddy Sami at RiOB, apparently ex-Jane’s Addiction bassist Eric Avery, former Mars Volta drummer Thomas Pridgen and all around guitar shredder from Dillinger Escape Plan Ben Weinman, along with the aforementioned Brent are trying to coordinate putting out an album as a band. Thing is, here in the UK a quick train ride and you can be anywhere the same day but in the states it's a little more spread out and they're finding all being together in the same place to write stuff is pretty tough.

While talking to Noisecreep Brent said that they "tried to get together and do an album, but there’s been no time...We want to record crazy stuff and Ben is working on that, but it’s been hard to get together.” Quite frankly I think this sounds awesome, with all of the influences coming together into one colossal wall of noise and awesomeness this is surely to be a sweet release if it ever materialises (please someone make it happen!!). In case you were wondering on what name to keep a look otu for if they do put some material out it's Giraffe Tongue, the reason why? “they look sick” according to Brent. Fair point well made. I think the music will be ridiculously sick though. Keep your eyes peeled!

[Watch] Cedric Bixler-Zavala joins the Omar Rodriguez Lopez Group (Live @ SXSW)

Well, well, well what do we have here, it's only the Omar Rodriquez Lopez Group playing live at Fitzgerald’s in Houston during last SXSW madness in Texas. Cedric Bixler-Zavala also joined the band onstage only fuelling the rumours that the new Mars Volta album is complete and ready to give our ear drums a good seeing to. Adding with the announcement of The Mars Volta playing Sonisphere Festival this July I think that rumour is almost a definate. Enjoy the performance up at the top courtesy of Music For Perfect People.
