#diSKOAverweekly: Week of February 5, 2020

yes bish 2020 we fancy up in hur!

YES I AM ALIVE!

Yes, it’s been awhile. I’m getting better at figuring out how to keep all these plates spinning, swear to fucking god.

Been sitting on these jams way too long to not share! Next update will actually happen on a Wednesday so please be kind and grab what you like before they vanish!

  1. The Brilliance - “How Do We Know”

Local lads The Brilliance just dropped their latest album ‘Suite No. 2: World Keeps Spinning’, companion album to 2018’s ‘Suite No. 1 Oh Dreamer’. Both are worth a spin!

  2. Rafael Casal - “Oxygen”

Missed this track when it dropped. This guy can really do anything. Jelly.

  3. Connor Duermit - “Everything”

This boy’s voice is smooooooooooooove. God damn. What are they putting in the water in LA right now?!

  4. Hydromag - “P.J.R.”

When that cozy bedroom pop just hits right… *chefs kiss*.

  5. Imbibe - “Reflections”

Fun fact: these guys are brothers! Australian ones no less (lol of course they are). If you’re in Europe and have seen Parcels somewhat recently chances are you caught these guys opening for them.

  6. Amtrac - “Radical (feat. Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs)”

Amtrac is gaining momentum, best hop on! Also very happy to see TEED popping his head up again for some air. When’s that homey gonna give us more than a few random tunes and remixes?!

  7. Yuksek - “G.F.Y. (feat. Queen Rose)”

ICYMI Yuksek is always perfect and here is more proof. Can’t wait to see him with JD Samson at The Dance on April 2nd! Gonna be 🔥🔥🔥!!!!

  8. Crush Club - “My Man (feat. Nicki B The Vagabond)”

As president of the Crush Club - Crush Club, I feel it is my responsibility to make sure that everyone knows about their latest. If My Man had a fragrance, what would it smell like? 🤔🤔

  9. LA Priest - “What Moves”

LA Priest is back and dropping an album GENE on April 24th!! I’m so fucking hype! I have missed him so so sooooo.

  10. Tamara Kumbula - “1 to 8”

It’s wild the things I find while roaming around on Stationhead. Have you downloaded that app yet? I’m going to start doing more shit on there. Anyway, I’m really digging on Tamara’s whole vibe.

  11. Cannibal Kids - “I Keep My Eyes Closed”

Nice to see some fresh meat coming out of my home state (Florida). Gonna keep an eye on these guys.

  12. of Montreal - “You’ve Had Me Everywhere”

If you haven’t heard ‘Ur Fun’ yet you absolutely must. It’s quickly climbing the ranks into my top 5 of Montreal records.

  13. The 1975 - “Me & You Together Song”

Y’all know I’m a sucker for a good love song and this one is def hitting me in all of those warm and fuzzy feels. Also the new music video that dropped today is a nice little Throwback Thursday moment.

  14. Gourmet - “Stone Cold Steve Austin”

  15. WAAX - “Labrador”

Sometimes I get bored and look up the bands on a festival lineup that I’ve never heard of. I did this for a fest that I Know Leopard was playing and somehow landed on this delightful bunch of noisy friends. Stay curious! There’s great songs everywhere! You just gotta look!

  16. Grieves - “Let The Devil In”

Been a minute since I caught up with Grieves. Really enjoying his latest, ‘The Collections of Mr. Nice Guy’. This song was how I found my way back to him.

#skoaradio 11/07/2015 liner notes

Really feeling this week's mixtape you guys.

Can't stop. Won't stop. Can't stop working. But it's chill though, the atmosphere I've been launched into has me surrounded by people who are music junkies just like me! In fact, I found Michl courtesy of one of my dope new friends at the office I'm in right now. (Thanks dude!) Sprout and I also hit up Honne on Tuesday this week where we hung out in the dungeon of a basement at Mercury Lounge and chatted with with James and Andy before they got the entire place pregnant. It's good to be busy. Then we had Flagship at Rough Trade on Friday night. Those guys were super great too. Can't wait to interview them and officially usher them into the skoa fam. But yeah, there's a lot going on but the majority of it is awesome. I guess you could say I'm #stressedbutalsoblessed. I hope you enjoyed this week's show. I'd love to hear from you if I just introduced you to your new favorite song (I know I'm kind of obsessing over SOULS right now).

Until next week!

#skoaradio 10/31/2015 liner notes

When a new song comes out of nowhere and suddenly becomes your favorite.

Happy Halloween broadband buds!
Gotta say, the jams in this week's #skoaradio are so good it's SCARY! hahahaha oh boy am I bad at #relevantcontent sometimes but WE'RE HERE TO TALK MUSIC ANYWAYS SO WHATEVER. I dug up some spooktacular new tunes this week from Sinden, The 1975, Jamie Woon, MALAA, and more so it's a pretty damn good mixtape if I do say so myself. Lots of new music out this week so I hope you weren't planning on buying your family any expensive Christmas gifts because you're about to exceed your budget on music for the zillionth time.

Don't forget you can grab the Spotify playlist at the bottom of this post so you can treasure the order I painstakingly put these songs in. Or you can hit shuffle. Whatever.

Until next week!

[Watch] The 1975 - "Settle Down" (Official Video)

The 1975 are back up to their old tricks and have released a black and white clip for their new single, "Settle Down". The video is set in a rural town and it all looks rather bleak as it follows the story of two young boys going about their daily business. It all seems rather average before ending in a strange turn of events. It left me a little confused upon first watch but apparently the video is said to be based on a recurring dream Matt Healy had as a child and this is it coming to life. See what you make of it below. Seems like the beginnings of a pretty good supernatural movie to me.

The 1975's debut is out now and the band are already at work on a follow-up which is sure to impress.

[Listen] The 1975 - "Girls" (The Knocks Remix)

In a year filled with rather exquisite albums, it's often hard to pick favourites and it's at this time of year that people begin to make their shortlists for numerous sites across the web. A stand out for me was the pop-filled, cinematic debut full-length from The 1975. Their recent single "Girls" is just an instant feel good song the moment it hits the speakers. Now, it is Friday after all, and chances are you're getting pretty hyped up for the weekend, and rightly so. There's also a chance you're sat at your desk at work right now and you're already clock watching counting down the minutes until you're free and can go sip on a sweet, sweet beverage. Let's make that wait seem like a little less with the help of a remix of the aforementioned single from The 1975 courtesy of The Knocks. Breathing a new life of disco into an already infectious track you can download it for free below and get the weekend started a little sooner than you might of planned.

The 1975's self-titled debut is out now.

[Watch] The 1975 - "Girls" (Official Video)

A lot can happen in a year and The 1975 have achieved a heck of a lot since this time last year; A number one album in the UK, festival slots around Europe, a couple of headline tours and numerous sold out shows announced for 2014. They've now gone and changed the usual black and white aesthetic we're used to in their videos! I mean, come on guys, calm down a bit. Just kidding. The visual for a personal favourite of mine from the album, "Girls", actually sees Matt complaining about the use of colour in the beginning but it also sees them having a laugh and having some scantily clad pretty girls dancing around, playing their instruments, so it's an easy enough watch. Matt actually said the video is "about a record label’s attempt at enforced conformity" which came about after people thinking they were doing this when the video for "Sex" was also a stylistic change. Basically this is all just a bit "tongue in cheek" and a bit of good fun. Jolly good.

The track itself is taken from the aforementioned self-titled number one album which is out now. I'm sure we're going to be seeing a lot more of these boys in the coming years and I'm sure 2013 is just the tip of the iceberg. If you're wanting to catch them on tour in the UK there's a handful of dates which haven't sold out so check out their official website here. US and Euro dates can be seen over there too.

[Listen] The 1975 - "Pressure" (Artful Remix)

Last week The 1975's self-titled debut went straight in at number 1 in the UK's album chart. Now it's had some time to settle in, there are 16 tracks to digest so it's quite a package, the band are offerieat yourselfk dance in the office with this 90's sounding re-work. Personally I think it's done really well, the vocals are worked nicely in around the dominating framework of the beat. It fits like a glove. Definitely one to add to the late night parties in the coming weeks.

If you've not already, you can pick up The 1975's debut album over here.
