[SONG OF THE DAY] Smoota - "That Body Of Yours"

Okay we need to have a discussion about musicians being held accountable releasing crazy sexy jams during Scorpio season. It’s like with every passing day I’m trying to not be all hot and bothered in a coffee shop writing up most of the songs in the past week. Is there some coitus-coaxing conspiracy amongst musicians right now that I don’t know about? jfc.

Today I’m trying to not make eye contact with anyone because New York based sex panther Smoota’s latest single “That Body Of Yours” is making me want to sneak off to the bathroom with the next cappuccino-sipping cutie that walks through the door. The sensual single comes from his forthcoming sophomore album, Pheromones, which drops this Friday (November 2nd). “That Body Of Yours” follows previously released singles, “Ballbuster”, a love song using S&M imagery and the double entendre of the word ballbuster, and title track, “Pheromones”, a playful fantasy about using our biological pheromones to attract a partner inspired by a friend who sells human sex pheromones online.

If you weren’t already sold on Smoota’s sensual 70s groove aesthetic, the video for “That Body Of Yours” should throw you over the edge. Always the clever one, Smoota re-edited a very obscure Japanese film from the 50s into a new story with new subtitles about himself in post-war Tokyo and his relationship with one of the performers at a Casablanca-style exotic nightclub. As he noted about the video, “The imagery from the film is gorgeous and features an ultra-sensual dance routine to my trombone solo on the song. The new story is funny and over-the-top and even features my appearance in the old footage through some studio trickery.” Of course he played the trombone solo. Of fucking course. 💦

If Smoota’s face looks familiar, it’s because he’s a super in-demand musician in New York. You may have seen him on tour with TV On The Radio, who he performed with for several years. He’s also recorded and performed with a slew of other acts such as: Run The Jewels, Steven Tyler, Pretty Lights, Sufjan Stevens, Aaron Neville, and the late Sharon Jones. Currently, Smoota is in the house band on ABC’s The Gong Show, hosted by Mike Myers.

If you happen to be in NYC you can catch Smoota with me at Union Pool in Brooklyn along with William Butler, Superhuman Happiness, and Hearing Things. I normally end up making out with someone at Union Pool, so it only seems appropriate that my first time seeing Smoota will be there. If you’re not in NYC, don’t fret! You’ve still got a chance for Smoota to get you wet on his North American tour that kicks off on Friday. Full dates after over on his website.

[Watch x Listen] TV On The Radio - "Caffeinated Consciousness" (Video) x Das Racist/PatrickWhat Remix

Check out the new video offering from TV On The Radio for their new single, "Caffeinated Consciousness" which features on their latest studio offering Nine Types Of Light. The video cuts between energy filled shots of the band on earth with weird visuals and extras. By this i mean dancers, Grandparent boxers and money falling from the sky. Yeah, weird. These sit along the verses well before cutting to a tranquil flying carpet ride for the band in space, running along the slower mellow choruses. It's a fun watch and a catchy tune to boot.

After that check out a remix from Das Racist who have paired up with patrickWhat for the slowed down mix. Das rap over a slightly altered track but the results are entertaining as to be expected from the NY based rappers. Check it out below after peeping the new TVOTR vid at the top.

[Download] Theophilus London - "Field of Dreams" (Prod. By TVOTR's Dave Sitek)

The dynamic duo of TV on the Radio guitarist/Maximum Balloon producer Dave Sitek and indie rapper/singer Theophilus return with a brand new track titled "Field of Dreams." Much like the duo's previous collaborations "Groove Me" from the Maximum Balloon self titled debut and "Wine + Chocolate" from last year's EP from TL, A Lovers Holiday, "Field of Dreams" carries that signiture electronic dance sound with London dropping his melodic rhymes.

The track was cut from London's upcoming LP Timez Are Weird These Days but according to Pigeons and Planes, the track may appear on London's upcoming mixtape Prince TL dropping this fall. Timez Are Weird These Days is set to drop in 2 weeks on July 19th, check out the first single "Last Name London" out here.

[Watch] TV On The Radio, Battles, Elbow, Chemical Brothers & Warpaint Glastonbury 2011 Highlights

If you've been living under a rock for the past week then you may have missed last weekend, which musically was what we'd call a goodie. With the 40th anniversary of Glastonbury Festival being this year the festival went off with a huge bang. Loads of surprise sets not to mention the actual line up minus surprise sets. We posted a good deal of our favourites yesterday (sorry if they got taken down before you got a chance to watch 'em but the internet police got to some). Today though we have our final blast of personal faves for you to sit back enjoy.

We have TV On The Radio for you to enjoy firstly up at the top followed by Battles after the jump. Then my local boys done good Elbow will entertain you with some great sing alongs from the crowd. Don't fret though, there's still two more lots of highlights to check out after that with a great set from The Chemical Brothers and a chilled set from those sultry girls, Warpaint

With it being such a momentous weekend of live music in a rather large gathering of fields in the UK Countryside why not soak it up from the comfort of your home or office. Sit back and enjoy one of the greatest festivals the world has to offer. It'll be 2013 when we next see bands performing at Worthy Farm with them taking a year off next year to rest the  fields (plus there's some event in London with loads of Athletes and stuff, the Olympics or something, Google it). So until 2013 let's have a toast to the organisers and performers for what was truly a great weekend of music.
