[SONG OF THE DAY] Summer Heart - "Buckle Up"
Summer Heart @ Knitting Factory on February 21, 2019. credit for all photos in this post: William Helms, The Joy of Violent Movement
On Thursday night Brooklyn got some much needed summer sunshine when Swedish sweetie Summer Heart kicked off his east coast tour with analog animal Brothertiger. He kicked off the night with my gateway drug to the world of Summer Heart, “Pretty Haze”, rounding out the night with his latest track (and last song of the #12songsofsummer series), “Buckle Up”. It was a packed crowd full of people who were dancing like it hadn’t snowed earlier in the week, additional layers be damned. With this being my first time catching him, I had hypothesized that there would be mainly two types of attendees at a Summer Heart show and I totally nailed it: there are folks who 1)- happily dance and sway basically the whole time and 2) - those who choose to stand on the sides of the stage, head in their hands while resting their elbows on the stage, who just swoon and sing along in their own version of a pretty haze.
Side note: if there were an award for Musician With The Most Infectious Smile the dude David Alexander would win all day every day. His joy performing is infectious, making the whole experience even more enjoyable than you thought it could be.
East coast fam def don’t miss this tour. Dates below for your convenience. 💖

[SONG OF THE DAY] Summer Heart - "Touch"
I’ve been overdue to check in on Swedish sweetie Summer Heart. I’ve caught a few of his #12songsofsummer project he’s been rolling out over the course of the year and his latest single, “Touch” is quite delightful. I’ve always been a sucker for his soothing swoon-inducing vocals but this particular jam has a wonky little playful wobble on the bass that takes the melody to an ultra-vibey level.
As 2019 continues to shape up as the best year ever I have more things to look forward to for you. Earlier in the week Summer Heart unveiled that he’ll be hitting the road with Brothertiger starting in late February for an 18 date tour on the best (see also: east) coast. Best believe you’ll see me in a pretty haze at Knitting Factory (see what I did there?).

[Listen] Summer Heart - "Pretty Haze" x "The Forbidden"
It's so damn lovely out in NYC and these are the jams you should be playing as you twirl around in the sunshine. Like the name of the song hints, "Pretty Haze" sure to leave you in a lovesick haze. Likewise "The Forbidden" continues to envelope you in subtle serenity. Both tracks come from Summer Heart's forthcoming EP, which drops later this year. These songs going to be the soundtrack to couples cuddling on blankets in McCarren Park this summer, so if your relationship survived cuffing season, you're welcome in advance for the inevitable swoonfest you'll experience from this.
Per his tweets and snaps, the Swedish mastermind behind the project, David Alexander is currently in Brooklyn working on more music, so it's most likely that yours truly is going to be making him #SKOAfam very soon.
If you're one of those patient people with money heading to SXSW in the next couple of days, make sure to add at least one of his performances to your daily agenda alongside the BBQ eating and standing in long lines. If SXSW isn't in your sights, you can always come to the Knitting Factory near the end of the month and hang out with me.
