[News] Queens of the Stone Age detail new album: '…Like Clockwork'

Unless you spent your weekend under a rock, you'll of seen the internet blow up when our friends over at Antiquiet broke the news of the new Queens of the Stone Age album along with some tantilising snippets of some tracks. The album is titled …Like Clockwork is due out in June via the band’s new label, Matador Records. exciting.

Regarding the release, the ginger giant known as Josh Homme has said it's an "audio documentary of a manic year." I for one cannot wait to hear some full tracks. On the release we can expect guest spots from Dave Grohl on skins, Alex Turner, Trent Reznor, Sir elton John, Joey Castillo, Nick Oliveri, Mark Lanegan, Scissor Sisters’ Jake Shears, Jon Theodore and James Lavelle of UNKLE.

The album itself was produced by the big man Homme and recorded at Pink Duck Studios. So, get excited. I know I've had a perma-boner since Friday due to the excitement. I should probably go and see a doctor about it.

[Watch] Mark Lanegan Band - "The Gravedigger's Song"

With Mark Lanegan Band readying the release of new record Blues Funeral for release via 4AD on the 7th of February a new video has hit the net. For the creeping track, "The Gravediggers Song", it all takes place in an old looking wooden house in the dusty sticks. From the offset it's a pretty creepy video with a definite connection to the afterlife and the ghostly goings on of the night. Thrown into the equation are weird masks and blood tinged water creating a very dark visual for an equally eerie song.

[News] Mark Lanegan Readies New Album: 'Blue Funerals'

Mark Lanegan has taken to his official website to announce his seventh studio album, Blue Funerals. As of yet though there is little more information about the album and it's contents. The album will be released under "The Mark Lanegan Band" which Antiquiet points out is probably due to the amount of contributors on the album. AQ also have some footage of a couple of potential album tracks from a show in Hollywood earlier in the year.

Blue Funerals is slated for a February 6th release and after the jump you can peep the dates of a European tour that's been scheduled to coincide with the LP release.

[News] A Lost Album From Screaming Trees Coming In August

Eleven years ago Screaming Trees called it quits and it's been 15 years since the release of their last album Dust. Apparently though the band didn't stop hooking up and jamming some stuff out in the studio. Pitchfork reveals that Mark Lanegan and co recorded a full album in-between 1998 and 1999. Drummer Barrett Martin discovered the lost album and has aptly named it, Last Words: The Final Recordings. The drummer will also release the album digitally through his Sunyata Music label on August the 2nd, but don't get too excited as a reunion is off the table. In a statement the band said:

"There are no plans for a reunion, as the band members are finally well-adjusted adults who actually get along with each other and have happily moved on with their lives."

On a positive note though, the recordings are said to feature Mark's friend Josh Homme and also Peter Buck of R.E.M. Sounds like a release to keep an eye out for.

[Listen] Mark Lanegan - "The Beast In Me"

It doesn't feel like 2 months have gone by since we got the haunting sounds of Mark Lanegan in our ears but that's when we last got to hear some new material from the depths of Mark's conscious. Today will be welcomed with open arms by more than a few as we have Mark's contribution to The Hangover II OST. Speaking of which has it really been two whole years since we all laughed at the expense of these guys on the big screen? Jeez.

Mark's contribution is a Johnny Cash cover of "The Beast In Me", and as you may be able to imagine, his voice fits the bill and the track is as moonlit as you'd expect. Sitting nicely next to a slow picked electric, trem filled guitar, yes please. How you could make a signature voice like his light and feathery I don't know. The track just makes me wonder what the hell happens in the film to warrant this much utter darkness and It's a great little snippet from Lanegan who should hopefully have a new LP sooner rather than later (pretty please). So, for now, we have this to keep us from going Mark Lanegan cold turkey.

For more deets on the film (which hits theaters tomorrow!) and the OST head on over to the official site.

[Download] Mark Lanegan - "Burning Jacob's Ladder"

Check out this slow burning track from Mark Lanegan with it's slow picked tremolo filled guitar lick taking you to a desert some place far away. Cigarette in mouth, you walk towards the sunset as the drum rolls then kick in layering with the guitar and haunting dark vocals. I like the way the song builds into a raucous noise and the screeching lead guitar that forces its way to the front of the mix. If you listen carefully you can pick out Alain Johannes handy work and I'm sure his vox are in the mix too on the backing harmonies. Check it out for yourselves below and look out for more from Mark in the coming months, this track may, or may not be featured on his new LP. Time will tell, but for now this tides over our Lanegan wants.
