Nothin But Fuckin Love Songs vol. 4
OH HULLO! ✨👋🏻
How’s my Valentine!?!?! 💘
Yo remember when I had a lot of intense but well meaning things to say about love on Valentines Day when I dropped vol. 2 back in 2021? I just had such a moment looking back at that post now, it’s so beautiful to be able to witness myself at the beginning of this healing journey I’ve been on. I’ve really been committed to making space for everyone to feel loved since I got in the thick of this. (She’s always been such a sweet sweetie! 🥹)
So wild to think of how little space I was actually making for myself in that moment.
It can be really hard to see the love around you, let alone be open to receive all of it. I didn’t realize just how bad I had gotten at receiving love until I was fortunate enough to enroll in yoga teacher training in the fall of last year. During the week when we were covering the heart chakra, we were told we would be doing an exercise where we were going to sit in a circle with our knees touching, hands on our knees, and then have someone sit in the center of the circle. That person was then supposed to make eye contact with you, say something they loved about you, and you were just supposed to take a breath and receive whatever they said while maintaining eye contact.
You had to rotate and have this experience with every single person in the circle.
Yeah.
I remember thinking to myself, “OMG That sounds so uncomfortable. Watch, they’re going to make me go first or some shit.”
THEY TOTALLY FUCKING DID. 😂
Let’s just say thankfully(?) it was just about as overwhelming for everyone else as it was for me. 😮💨 I probably had the most snot on my hoodie tho 😪. It was so fucking sweet. We all got so much closer after that.
I’ll never forget that experience. It’s made me think a lot about how it seems like it’s become just as hard to receive love as it is to feel comfortable asking for it, and not just from other people, but also from ourselves.
I’ve recently started to use love songs as a litmus test to see where I’m at with my relationship with myself on any given day. 🧪 If I catch myself hung up on a song and I’m feeling anxious as a result, I pay attention to how the lover is addressed in the song and show up for myself in that way. When the song goes back to feel good vibes that’s how I know I’ve done my job effectively. It’s a pretty cool concept to experiment with. I invite you to give it a try with your favorite love songs. Alternatively, as per usual, I’ve assembled another stack of songs from my stockpile for my annual offering, so if you’re open to receiving some love from me while you venture inward, amazing. You can also just listen to these and pretend like they’re all for you, too. You know how to love yourself best (or you should anyway), so take all the love you need from these pixels you’re interacting with right now.
Sending you Lots of love, Valentine! 💖
[Listen] Skream - "Copy Cat" Feat. Kelis
It's weird, whenever I Think of Skream, I think of Benga and yesterday I posted a new Benga track and today in the inbox arrives a new Skream track... Ok it's not that weird really, they're both just busy, hard working guys but still it's always nice to have some new music from Oliver. He's offered up a track titled "Copy Cat" which features an appearance from Kelis and was actually premiered a few weeks ago on his and Benga's radio one show. Check it out below.
[Watch] Calvin Harris - "Bounce" Feat. Kelis (Video)
Although, Calvin's last track "Awooga" was a bit of a bore and too housey for my tastes, his recent single "Bounce" has grown on me alot. The only thing that I know alot of die hard fan is Calvin back on the vocals, however, Kelis does an awesome job on this track still keeping in a style Calvin Harris fans can appreciate, even with her Nas referencing lyrics. The beat has that similar sound of his previous single "Awooga" but has a little bit more to it like it could have been recorded for his last record Ready For The Weekend.
Check out the awesome video above directed by Vincent Haycock and also features guest vocalist Kelis. The video was recorded in the wonderful party city of Las Vegas and features a guy who is recently dumped by his girl, wandering around Vegas looking for a good time. It feels very much like the movie Kids or even Trainspotting. Good shit, Mr. Harris.
[Listen] Calvin Harris - "Bounce (feat. Kelis)"
Earlier today, Annie Mac premiered the next single from Calvin Harris, "Bounce". The track features longtime collaborator Kelis. Still no word on an official full length release, but at this point I would like for Calvin to keep working for a little bit more. There's something about this and "Awooga" that just seems to have lost the depth that I'm accustomed to with his songs. Am I right?
This is definitely a step up from "Awooga", but not the leap that I was hoping it would be.
Am I crazy? Tell me your thoughts!
UPDATE: Updated post with CDQ stream. Enjoy!
[Listen] Calvin Harris - " Bounce (feat. Kelis)" (Clip)
Not wasting time after his instrumental single, "Awooga" hit the interwebz, Calvin Harris tweeted this 10 second clip of his upcoming track, "Bounce", which features long time collaborator, Kelis.
Since he has previously declared that songs featuring his voice will not be as prominent as on his previous albums, this song most likely will be all Kelis on vocals.
I like this a lot better than "Awooga", don't you?
[Listen] Duran Duran - "The Man Who Stole a Leopard" Feat. Kelis
Last night, DJ/Producer Mark Ronson along with Simon Le Bon, Nick Rhodes and Kelis (via phone) debuted their recent collaboration "The Man Who Stole a Leopard" on Ronson's Authentic Shit show on East Village Radio. The track appears on Duran Duran's upcoming 13th studio album, All You Need Is Now, produced by Duran Duran and Mark Ronson. The album is set for release as an iTunes download on December 21, 2010 and as a LP/Special Edition CD in February 2011. But for now i'll let SKoA staff member/photographer Liz aka sproutdr tell you a little more about the new track that you can hear below.
It’s been some time since a Duran Duran track has brought me back to why I fell in love with Simon Lebon’s dreamy voice as a teenager. For hardcore “Duranies”, "The Man Who Stole a Leopard" is a sweet trip down memory lane. It is woven with a fine combination of mysterious keyboard sounds (ala Nick Rhodes) and the melodic voice of Kelis. "The Man Who Stole a Leopard" is a track reminiscent of Nightboat, Late Bar, and The Chauffeur. True D2 fans will appreciate the atmospheric Duran Duran sound of old with a touch of new.

[Download] Kelis - "4th Of July" (Calvin Harris Remix)
I've been holding onto this one for a while (not selfishly, I just keep forgetting to share) but here it is in all its glory. Check out Calvin Harris' remix of Kelis' single "4th of July." This tune definitely has that Calvin Harris sound, mixing the vibe of his album I Created Disco and his latest record Ready For The Weekend. Check it out below.
