[TODAY IN MUSIC] 5 Things You Should Know On Monday, September 17th, 2018

MRW I saw the news about Australia’s first female-focussed and LGBTIQ+ inclusive booking agency

Hi so I’m going to try a thing. I do my best to keep up with relevant things happening in and thought a recap of the things that stand out the most to me might be mutually beneficial. If you want to chat in the comments (or on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram) about any of these I’m all ears! 😎

  • TL;DR: Ad Rock and Mike D did NOT give Eminem permission for the Kamikaze artwork. In fact, a lot of us knew about the artwork before they did. [Exclaim!]

  • Dua Lipa’s body guards from her Shanghai show were detained by police after reports of them dragging out fans waving rainbow fans and beating members of the audience. 🤬 [NME]

  • If you have a never ending love/hate relationship with AutoTune, you might find this very thorough history of how it revolutionized popular music interesting. [Pitchfork]

  • ICYMI: we’re still trying to get the very forward thinking legislation known as the Music Modernization Act passed in the US. Neil Diamond took to the LA Times to detail how our current outdated laws negatively effect legacy acts' ability to earn performance royalties on digital/satellite radio. [LATimes]

  • AMAZING news from down under: Australian booking agent Kailei Ginman has launched Australia’s first female-focussed and LGBTIQ+ inclusive booking agency – an all-female roster, run by female agents, employing all-female freelancers and supporting community charities – aptly named Alpha. [The Music Network]

[Listen] Eminem - "Berzerk"

Following his Reading and Leeds Festival slots last weekend, in which he brought out Dido and Royce Da 5'9", Eminem has let loose a brand new single. Titled "Berzerk", it's an energy packed, Beastie Boys sampling 4 minute rollercoaster. I've not enjoyed an Eminem this much for quite a while. That's just me though, see for yourselves below.

Along with the single comes news of The Marshall Mathers LP 2, which will be released on November 5th. I have a feeling this is going to be big.

[News] Eminem Announced For Reading & Leeds Festival

At the end of November Reading and Leeds festival broke from their normal tradition and announced some headliners prior to the usual protocol of it happening in March right before tickets go on sale. In that they said Deftones, Alt-J, Subfocus and Boy Better Know featuring Wiley, Skepta and JME. Today they've announced another and it's a biggie. Returning to the festival for the first time since 2001, Eminem will take centre stage with a full band behind him. It's sure to be a popular addition to the festival and a highlight of the 2013 summer calendar. Others rumoured to be performing include Blur and Black Sabbath. This could shape up to be one for the books.

Pre-sale tickets are on sale now.

[News] Lady Gaga Appearing on Kendrick Lamar's Debut LP

This week's "What the fuck?" moment comes courtesy of Lady Gaga and Kendrick Lamar, who have collaborated on a new track titled "PARTYNAUSEOUS". What started as a rumored collaboration between Gaga, Lamar, and Eminem is now confirmed to be sans Marshall Mathers, according to a tweet from his manager Paul Rosenberg. Lady Gaga recently took to Twitter to show her excitement:

I am so excited to announce that a record I’ve been working on has now become a collaboration with @kendricklamar for HIS ALBUM."

[Listen] Obie Trice - "Richard" Feat. Eminem

I did not see this coming today. The once Shady Records member Obie Trice has had a track called "Richard" hit the internet and it features Eminem himself! As BPM point out, Statik Selektah, who produced the track, tweeted to say this is not the final mastered track but it's still very much worth a few moments of your day. These two go hard.

Obie Trice’s Bottoms Up drops on the 3rd of April with production from Dr. Dre and Eminem. Roll on April!

[Watch] Bad Meets Evil - "Lighters" Feat Bruno Mars (Official Video)

Even though a lot of you readers may lap up any Eminem and Royce Da 5'9" post we may throw your way, when we first posted the track "Lighters" from their Bad Meets Evil collab, everyone seemed a little less eager to step forward and take note. Maybe it was due to the inclusion of Bruno Mars Da 5'5". Or just Bruno Mars as he's known to many. The track though has been getting radio play the world over and seems to be getting acceptance from the masses weirdly enough, so naturally the video was the next step. Peep it at the top and if you haven't picked up Bad Meets Evil, Hell: The Sequel you can pick it up over here.
