[SONG OF THE DAY] Bob Moses - "Desire"

“Desire can become quite destructive if you're not self-aware. With this record, we’re trying to be self-aware by looking at our own desires and reckoning with them”

Everyone’s favorite makeout music makers, Bob Moses, have returned with a brand new single and news of a new album that will be out next month! The album is called Desire and it’s a concept album surrounding the positives and pitfalls of humanity’s driving wants in the digital age we’re living in. “Desire can become quite destructive if you're not self-aware. With this record, we’re trying to be self-aware by looking at our own desires and reckoning with them,” explains keyboardist Jimmy Vallance. “Stories about desire are timeless: Icarus flying too close to the sun and ending up falling to his death…that idea inspired the falling man on the album cover. That symbolized to us how desire can lead to a downfall.”

The duo has chosen to share the title track of the album as their initial offering, which is a collaboration with Grammy-nominated ZHU and it is…well let’s just say it’s aptly named(😍). It’s definitely a slight pivot to their signature sound, but I appreciate that ZHU definitely urged a different kind of energy out of them. They also unveiled an interactive video for the track, further demonstrating the pleasure/pain sides of desire. I was going to share it below but I can’t shut the autoplay off so you can head here to check it out. The below standard version is equally as demonstrative of the concept they’re going for.

The idea for the followup to their sophomore album, Battle Lines, came while the duo were out on their last European club tour as their original two-piece setup. “It was great being back in that environment and feeling the communal energy,” recounts Vallance. Singer Tom Howie adds,“We wanted to make something that was continuously mixed, something that would take the listener on a journey and replicate that feeling we try to create when we’re playing our sets in a club. We’ve appreciated the worlds created in concept records from bands like Pink Floyd and Nine Inch Nails. We thought it would be interesting to combine that kind of songwriting with the flow of modern electronic music.”

To celebrate the launch of Desire, Bob Moses will play a B2B livestream set with Blacklizt (a project by ZHU) as part of Insomniac’s Factory 93 “Secret Project Livestream”. That’s happening on Friday, July 17 at 4pm PT / 7pm ET HERE.

Desire is out on August 28th, 2020, courtesy of the fine folks at Domino.

[SONG OF THE DAY] Bob Moses - "Heaven Only Knows"

Here's the thing, if someone sends you anything by Bob Moses it's definitely an invitation for sex. If someone merely brings up Bob Moses with you in conversation, they have probably thought about having sex with you, or at the very least making out with you. These are just the facts, which you can prove true for yourself with their latest single, "Heaven Only Knows", which was released earlier this week. Obviously remember that consent is key for everyone to have fun, but if you've been looking for a song to seal the deal with, suffice it to say your search is absolutely over.

If you're hoping to take things to the next level with your lover in the coming months , the band will be heading out on a North American tour in September with a one-off date near the end of this month in NY so if you'd like to see me swoon be sure to come out.

[Night Out] Soundcloud Go Launch Party @ Flash Factory (03/31/2016)

Bob Moses performing at the Soundcloud Go launch party @ Flash Factory

Last week, one of my favorite music services for stumbling across baby bands, Soundcloud, made an interesting move that I'm honestly very anxious to see how it plays out. The soon to be 9 year old streaming site announced a new offering: a paid subscription service that boasts more tracks along with ad-free and offline listening. To celebrate, they threw quite the fun shindig over at Flash Factory that I had the honor of being invited to.

The plan for the night was to catch as much of The Saint Johns as I could at Gramercy Theater and then make a run for it to Flash Factory in time to see Jr Jr, who I had been informed would be there, along with A$AP Ferg and Chance The Rapper

By the time I managed to get to Flash Factory I could tell from the vibrations outside that I had absolutely missed Jr Jr, which was a major bummer. I hadn't seen them in a few years and was really looking forward to seeing them, especially since I enjoyed their self-titled album they dropped last year. Alas, it just wasn't meant to be.

Something about those vibrations that I could hear sounded familiar as I waited in line to get in. It wasn't A$AP Ferg, who I assumed would be next. "Who is that? Oh, they're playing Bob Moses in between acts. That's cool." As I get closer I noticed that they're playing a lot of the new Bob Moses record, Days Gone By, but it's out of order....and sounds very live. Naturally, I can't help but turn to the person putting my wristband on and exclaim, "IS THAT BOB FUCKIN' MOSES!?"

IT WAS!

They were a last minute addition to the lineup, which was both awesome and unfortunate. It was awesome for me because I have been *dying* to see them live, but it appeared that other attendees were unaware of their splendor. Don't worry, I made sure to turn to as many people as I could after their set and say, "Yo, not joking, you need to buy/stream/whatever that record as soon as you can and get ready to want to make out to that record for the rest of your life!" That record is dark and sexy as hellllllll. If you haven't heard it yet, you should get on that.

I was honestly so pleasantly caught off guard by the last minute lineup addition that it just further intensified the rest of the evening. After the Soundcloud co-founders came out and said some heartfelt words about how excited they were for this next chapter of Soundcloud's legacy, A$AP Ferg took the stage and got the crowd riled up and ready for Chance the Rapper to spit some crazy amount of fire. His performance was further heightened for me as I was conveniently standing next to a gentleman who was apparently one of his biggest fans. Actually, everyone around me were all genuine music fans, which doesn't happen often when you're in VIP. But that's why Soundcloud is great, because they actually employ big music fans. It was nice because we all collectively geeked out together throughout the evening.

I actually ended up going out with a few of them after the party was over. It was a late night out, but it was a great night out for sure.

You can peep my photos below. I will be giving Soundcloud Go a whirl in the next few days and will report back with my thoughts on that as well, so keep an eye out for that.

#skoaradio 11/14/2015 liner notes

"Kibbe, aren't you posting these liner notes kind of late?"

I'm late to getting this up. Sorry. Clearly from the amount of posts I've done so far today I'm trying tog get caught up. It's a nice problem to have with 3 fire shows in a week being the root of not being able to get #content out on time.

Anyway, this is going to be the last time I put together a separate playlist for the show. That's right, from now on you'll have to scramble to pull the songs from a playlist that I'm going to be changing on the regular. This is mutually beneficial because it will force me to get these out sooner rather than later so you can snatch up the goodies I share with you.

Hope you're having a great weekend fam!

kibbe!

Read these things and get smarter okay?

Feel free to grab this playlist, obvi.
