[Listen] Titus Andronicus' Patrick Stickles Covers Lana Del Rey's "Video Games"

Earlier today, Patrick Stickles, the now beardless frontman of Titus Andronicus, let loose a video of him covering Lana Del Rey's breakthrough hit "Video Games," which has become one of the most covered songs of the year. The cover, recorded in Stickles' parent's living room on Boxing Day, shows off his skills on the piano, and, despite being admittedly out of tune, the cover seems to have meant a lot to the New Jersey rocker. Before releasing the cover video, Stickles took to his Twitter and went on one of his signature rants, saying, "I have been the man in that song." He went further to say, "What I mean is, there have been shameful moments in my past when I have been emotionally unavailable to a good woman. That was fucked. Why was I so emotionally unavailable? Because I was scared, and I couldn't receive love b/c I didn't love myself. Self-hate makes love a lie."

The man sure does love opening up with honest and real talk, and it makes for one of the most interesting and refreshing Twitter accounts out there. If you don't currently follow Patrick Stickles on Twitter, you should probably head here and do so now. In the player above, you can check out Stickles' piano-driven cover of Lana Del Rey's "Video Games."

The cover sees brand new Titus Andronicus member Liam Betson on vocals doing his best Springsteen, while the rest of the band, with the help of Brooklyn band The So So Glos, adds their own flavour to the Springsteen classic. Head over to the band's SoundCloud page to give the cover a listen.

As well, speaking of Bruce Springsteen, the rock icon made yet another appearance on stage alongside The Gaslight Anthem during their recent show at New Jersey venue The Convention Hall in Asbury Park. You can check out the live performance here.

[Watch] Titus Andronicus - "No Future Part Three: Escape From No Future"

Check out the new visuals offered up for Titus Andronicus' The Moniter track, "No Future Part Three: Escape From No Future". The Tom Scharpling directed video is meant to show you the real New Jersey, and what it's all about. Or as they put it themselves;

“You think, ‘cause you’ve seen the Sopranos, the Real Housewives, you’ve seen Jersey Shore, you heard about the garbage dumps, you smelled the Meadowlands when you were driving down the turnpike, you think you know New Jersey? You don’t know anything about New Jersey. That’s why me and my four best friends — together we make up Titus Andronicus — we’re gonna go up and down this state. And we’re gonna show the world, through this video, what New Jersey is really all about.”

Check out the video above via The NJ Underground, and to pick youself up a copy of The Moniter simply head on over here.

[Stream] Titus Andronicus - “Four Score And Seven”

New Jersey indie-rockers Titus Andronicus are back with a follow up to their debut album, The Airing Of Grievances. The new album, entitled The Monitor, is due to be released on March 9th, courtesy of XL Recordings. According to singer/Band leader Patrick Stickles, they approached The Monitor with a different kind of writing process this time.:

"'The Monitor' is more or less a "concept album" – that is to say, it uses the American Civil War of 1861-1865 as an extended metaphor for the concerns addressed in a somewhat linear narrative. In said narrative, our hero leaves his humble birthplace of New Jersey - the oppressive and stifling qualities of which were discussed ad nauseam about one album ago – for the greener pastures of Boston, Massachusetts. His thesis – "the enemy is everywhere" – is put to the ultimate test as he pontificates on the topics of regional identity, emotional anesthetization, and the heavy yoke of trying to live decently in indecent times. All the while, he is forced to wonder whether said American Civil War was truly won or lost, or even completed. Will he find the supportive environment and like-minded compatriots he dreams of? Or will he be forced to leave his newly adopted home in ideological disgrace? What does it mean to be an American in 2009 anyway? Who are our so-called "friends" and how actually friendly are they? Is it necessary, or even a good idea, for an indie rock album to ask these sorts of questions? The Dark Knight, Curb Your Enthusiasm, and The Taming of the Shrew also fit in there somewhere."

Recorded in August of 2009, The Monitor features guest players from members of The Hold Steady, Wye Oak, Vivian Girls and Ponytail. It will be available as a compact disc or as a double vinyl LP, both with gorgeous artwork by Nolen Strals, vocalist of Double Dagger and co-author of the recently published textbook, Lettering and Type, and of course digitally.

Want a taste of what's to come on The Monitor? You can stream "Four Score And Seven" right here!

It's an eight minute song, so it's been cut into two pieces for your listening convenience:
