[Watch] Cold War Kids Cover Leonard Cohen's "There Is A War"
In less than one week, Leonard Cohen's first album in eight years, titled Old Ideas, is set to be released via Columbia Records. In honour of the music icon, Columbia has gathered together a number of musicians, who are also fans of Mr. Cohen, and brought them into the studio to record a covers series called Old Ideas With New Friends. Courtesy of Filter, we have video footage of Cold War Kid's cover of Cohen's "There Is A War," a song which they call "striking." Check out the footage from within the recording studio above.
Old Ideas is out on January 31st via Columbia Records.
[Listen] Fleet Foxes - "Dancing On My Own" (Robyn Cover)
Well isn't this a delight for the ears. It's always nice to see bands/artists you like giving the old doff of the cap to a fellow performer in the form of a great sounding cover (there are the occasional howlers too but we'll turn a blind eye to those). Recently band Fleet Foxes covered Robyn's "Dancing On My own" and the results are pretty damn impressive. See what you make of their take on the song below. (Via Fleet Foxes Sing)
UPDATE: Yes, we realized we goofed. This song was recorded by a band that covers songs in a Fleet Foxes style. It's not the actual band. Whoops...
[Listen] Wavves - "Hybrid Moments" (Misfits Cover)
Ahhhhh what a way to start off a glorious Friday. Nathan Williams AKA Wavves has let loose a cover of the Misfits' "Hybrid Moments" and it's a fuzzy scream of goodness. He put the song up via his Twitter page and the results are a heavily distorted fuzzed out hat tip to Misfits. See for yourselves below. Let's have some more material from the King of the Beach again this year. That'd be great.

[Listen] Ryan Adams - "Round and Round"
Ryan Adams had a killer 2011 including some great sounding covers of the likes of Iron Maiden and Galaxie 500. Today we can add another to that list as a cover he did towards the end of the year has surfaced. He takes on Ratt’s "Round and Round" making it his own with a nice sounding acoustic version that he performed during a visit to CBC's, Q Radio. If you like the sound of that why not head on over here to check out a full interview with Adam.

[Listen] Cassettes Won't Listen - "Hey" (Pixies Cover)
Brooklyn-based musician Jason Drake, aka Cassettes Won't Listen, is continuing his love of '80s alt-rock with yet a cover of one of the decade's most influential bands, Pixies. This time around, he has let loose his take on the Pixies' "Hey" from their 1989 album Doolittle. The end result is a fantastic display of Drake's instrumentation skills, and despite not sounding very much like the original the song is a great listen, so check it out below, courtesy of Slicing Up Eyeballs.
As well, Cassettes Won't Listen's third studio album, EVINSPACEY, is now available, so head here to purchase what is simply an excellent album.

[News] Bon Iver Announces "Towers" Single, John Prine Cover to Serve as B-Side
Continuing the success of his highly praised eponymous second studio album, which was our number one album of the year, Bon Iver has announced that the third single from the album, following "Holocene" and "Calgary," will be "Towers." The song will be released as a 12" and digitally on January 23rd via 4AD, and will feature a cover of John Prine's "Bruised Orange (Chain of Sorrow)" as a b-side. The b-side was originally featured on a John Prine tribute album back in 2010, but was done solely by Justin Vernon. It is unclear whether this will act as the b-side, or if, this time around, Vernon has the backing of the entire Bon Iver band. Either way, you can listen to the original cover below, courtesy of Listen Before You Buy, and look forward to the release of the "Towers" single on January 23rd.

[Watch] Feist Covers Guns N' Roses' "November Rain"
During a recent show in Mexico City, Feist took to the stage in support of her recently released album Metals. While on stage, Feist and her band performed a surprise cover of Guns N' Roses' classic hit "November Rain." In the midst of the cover, a Slash look-a-like showed up during the song's memorable guitar solo, and all that before Feist absolutely destroys a piñata. Now that's what I call an awesome performance. You can check out all the piñata smashing action in the player above, via Consequence of Sound.
[Listen] Destroyer - "Leave Me Alone" (New Order Cover)
Canadian group Destroyer have offered their ode to one of the UK's most influential bands, New Order, with this cover of their track "Leave Me Alone". The cover was part of Mojo Magazine's compilation that got together a load of bands to offer up New Order Covers. This seems to be the cream of the crop though. See what you make of it below.
