[SONG OF THE DAY] Lily Allen - "Lost My Mind"

The countdown 'til the best day of 2018 aka the day that Lily Allen's fourth studio album No Shame drops is currently at a mere 6 days. For some reason that feels like an eternity, but fortunately the benevolent Sheezus blessed us with "Lost My Mind" to hold us over.

I will forever be grateful for Lily's willingness to be so vulnerable when she writes. Her lyrics are always so damn relatable and when coupled with her angelic airy vocals I always end up feeling like we're both going to make it out on the other side.

The most wonderful woman will be performing at select festivals over the summer before embarking on a lengthy US tour.

Oh! If you head over to her Instagram she's gradually rolling out snippets of all the songs on the record, which as I excitedly squealed loudly enough that my roommates made fun of me, is "SO EXCITING!"

happy weekend! sorry this is late but rosé happened last night.

[SONG OF THE DAY] SAKIMA - "Show Me"

HAPPY PRIDE EVERYONE!!!!! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🌈👨‍❤️‍👨👩‍❤️‍👩

Yesterday, Billboard premiered London crooner SAKIMA's  latest soft and ultra sensual single, "Show Me", which is all about communicating sexually with your body.

Upon playing this track a good, oh I dunno, 20 times this morning, I had this nice moment of reflection of how beautiful it is that as more voices are being lifted up in music that we are getting so many different new ways to hear about expressing love, passion, lust, romance, etc. With his last few releases, SAKIMA has been boldly tackling the queer romance and queer sex from his perspective, all the while, as he told Billboard continually battling with feeling fully sexually liberated in the process. The thing that will always keep me coming back to SAKIMA is his hypnotically soothing voice, which sometimes puts you in a sexy stupor and in other moments (such as "Show Me") there's such a tenderness to his delivery that it evokes memories of being young, wanting to fall in love, make love, etc.

The lovely London lad is currently working on a new project, which he's still determining the full scope of but is calling "Project Peach" and "it's going to be a complete celebration of queer art, queer iconography, queer stories, all of it." Obviously if there's no full scope of the project yet there's no release date to relay, but more updates on that as it reveals itself.

[SONG OF THE DAY] Slum Sociable - "Moby Bryant"

Slum fam are back!!!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻

After them seemingly vanishing shortly after CMJ 2015, I'm really glad that I crammed in seeing them as many times as I did.

But the boys are back in town, you guys! Slum Sociable have announced their debut self-titled full-length, which will be dropping on November 24th. Pre-orders are available now over on their website, so grab yourself a bundle or something. In the meantime, grab a listen to their latest single, "Moby Bryant", which is more on the darker spectrum compared to their prior offerings.

Last month on Twitter singer Miller Upchurch opened up about his struggles with depression, citing his struggles as part of the reason there was a delay in new music. Really glad things are on the up and up for Upchurch. His voice is quickly becoming one of my favorites.

Aussie fam you can catch these guys next month for select dates. No word on anything in the US yet but obviously I will let you know if that changes.

SLUM SOCIABLE TOUR DATES

12/1 - Sydney, AU - Oxford Art Factory
12/2 - Melbourne, AU - Corner Hotel
12/8 - Perth, AU - Jack Rabbit Slims
12/9 - Adelaide, AU - Fat Controller

[SONG OF THE DAY] Snow Culture - "Paris"

Yesterday Swedish duo Snow Culture just dropped their debut release, EP1, which features the dreamy track, "Paris". The band just played two sold out shows this week, opening for BøRNS in New York and Sinead Harnett in Los Angeles (and somehow I managed to miss both ugh).  For you Riverdale fans, you probably heard their track, "No Sleep", not too long ago.

[SONG OF THE DAY] Mike Irish - "A Grain Of Salt"

I love when The Algorithm throws me a little nugget of baby band goodness. This particular project is extra intriguing to me because from the looks of things dude could be making more traction if he had help promoting it. Brooklyn based producer Mike Irish has put together a promising EP called The Joy Of Motion, featuring the catchy opening track, "A Grain Of Salt".

So yeah, not a whole lot else to say about him because it looks like there's literally nothing else out there about him. I promise I wasn't being a creepy stalker when I stumbled across his personal Facebook page since it appears he doesn't have an artist page, so maybe I'll hit him up and see what his deal is.

[SONG OF THE DAY] San Scout - "You Instead"

When last we met our friends in San Scout I was attempting to troll them on their flip phone as part of their promotion for "In/Balance".

Today I have good news and bad news, friends of the internet.

The bad news is the London duo has since misplaced their flip phone. :(

The good news is we have a new song and more music on the way! The guys have been tucked away in an old factory carefully crafting new jams for us, which I imagine will be rolling out over the next few months.

"You Instead" is a wistful slow jam featuring their signature breathtakingly brooding vocals that I'm now struggling to determine who among the two that comes out of now that I'm looking at this press photo again. Anyway, I'm looking forward to hearing more from these guys soon.

[SONG OF THE DAY] starRo - "Harajuku Affair"

Multi-instrumentalist has quite the run in the past two years. After quitting his day job and spending 6 months being an Uber driver until he could fully support himself from making music, Tokyo-born starRo woke up with a Grammy nomination this past awards season for his work remixing a Flaming Lips song performed by The Silver Lake Chorus.

His new track, "Harajuku Affair", is the perfect lazy Sunday vibe.

[SONG OF THE DAY] Lye Marlow - "Headlights'

Lye Marlow is a passion project for songwriter/producer Clare Moses. The name is inspired by the character Charlie Marlow from Joseph Conrad’s novel “Heart Of Darkness”, who tells a lie in order to preserve - or rather fabricate an important sense of honor and romance where it never existed. It represents fantasy as something that is both necessary and dangerous. Lye is also a deadly chemical that is used to make soap, and the mythology of the name speaks to that idea - that sometimes what appears to cleanse can also poison.

Her new track, "Headlights" was written when Moses was allowing someone else's behavior to make her feel like she wasn't enough. She notes, "The song is about challenging that inclination and asserting that anyone who doesn't see your light is missing the point. It's an anthem of self-empowerment, and a stance against anyone who would denigrate your character under the glare of their assumptions."
