[Listen] Bon Iver - "Hinnom, TX" (Slow Magic Remix)
One week ago, we heard Work Drug's remix of Bon Iver's "Beth/Rest", their submission for Bon Iver's remix competition. Slow Magic, another SKOA favorite, has put forth his submission for the stems project, and this time around it's his take on the atmospheric Bon Iver, Bon Iver cut "Hinnom, TX". The enigmatic producer has done a fantastic job of reworking the song, keeping the most important aspects and adding in layers of glitchy synthesizers and hard-hitting 808 percussion. Slow Magic has done Vernon and co. justice. Stream it below, and head over to the Indaba Music website to vote for the remix.
[SKOA Premiere] Icky Blossoms - "Perfect Vision" (Them Jeans Remix)
On the heels of the announcement that Omaha trio Icky Blossoms will be heading out on tour with The Faint, Reptar and Rubblebucket the band has released a free download this spirited rework of their latest single, "Perfect Vision" courtesy of producer outfit Them Jeans. I really like that this remix doesn't take too much away from the original itself. It just kind of feels like the song got up this morning and opted for coffee instead of tea. A very subtle transformation that fits perfectly as summer is winding down.
Icky Blossoms hit the road starting on September 14th. Make sure you grab their debut self-titled album out on Saddle Creek if you haven't already.

[Listen] Bon Iver - "Beth/Rest" (Work Drugs Remix)
Work Drugs are one of those bands that wholly encapsulate the summer months, with every song they release evoking the fun beach vibes and warm sounds of the sunny season. It was a surprise, then, to see that the Philadelphia outfit had remixed Bon Iver's Peter Gabriel-esque album closer "Beth/Rest" for the band's currently ongoing remix competition. The bigger surprise, though, is how well Work Drugs have implemented their style into the song, speeding up the original prodceedings and adding layers of soft-yet-fun synths, energetic percussion and an overall sense of enjoyment and experimentation. This sense of fun works surprisingly well, turning "Beth/Rest" into an anthemic jam. Stream and download the remix below, and head over to Indaba Music to vote for Work Drugs' take on the Bon Iver, Bon Iver closer.
Another fun addition to Work Drugs' reinterpretation of the song, they apparently used "a 10 year old Packard Bell found along the roadside, Work Drugs crafted the "Beth / Rest" remix with an outdated version of Windows Sound Recorder."

[Listen] Cat Power - "Cherokee" (Nicolas Jaar Remix)
In June Cat Power posted up a brand new track titled "Cherokee". The result saw the internet go crazy for Chan Marshall's return, and rightly so. Today though she's posted up a new version of the track along with a remix of it from Nicolas Jaar.
Check out both the rework and the new version below and look out for Cat Power's new album, Sun, which drops on the 4th of September via Matador.
[Listen] My Morning Jacket - "Outta My System" (Washed Out Remix)
My Morning Jacket will be releasing a new EP tomorrow, titled Outta My System – Remixez Y Friendz, which sees them bringing along some friends to remix their song "Outta My System", which was originally part of their 2011 LP Circuital. Included in that "friends" category are folks such as Dave Sitek and Washed Out, who have lent their respective abilities to tweaking and tinkering with MMJ's track. The band has been kind enough to share Washed Out's remix of the song, which sees the chillwave aficionado adding delicate layers of reverb and synthpoppy goodness. Stream it below.
Outt My System - Remixez Y Friendz is out tomorrow digitally.
[Listen] Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros - "Dear Believer" (Timmy The Terror Remix)
Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros get a synth-fueled reboot with Timmy The Terror's remix of "Dear Believer". The remix sees the once folksy number diving into an unwavering pool of synthesizers and echoing percussion, a change that is quite drastic but fully welcome. Stream and download it below.

[News] Bon Iver Announces Remix Competition
If you've ever wanted to take the emotional, falsetto sounds of Bon Iver, then it's your lucky day. Justin Vernon and co. have announced the launch of a remix competition for their top-scoring sophomore album Bon Iver, Bon Iver. Starting right now, you can head here to download stems for all ten songs from the band's sophomore effort, and it's up to you what to do with it. The incentive? Each song will have a contest attached to it, and the prize is $1,000 per song for a total of $10,000. All of the submitted remixes will go up on Indaba Music, with the public being able to vote on their favorites. From there, the band will take the highest voted remixes and decide on the definite winners. The top ten remixes (one per song), will be compiled into a full album released exclusively through Spotify.
The contest will be running until August 29th, after which the winners will be announced in the third week of September. The top ten chosen will receive $1,000 and a place on the remix album. To give fans an idea of what they could do for the competition, S. Carey has let loose his remix of "Minnesota, WI", which you can stream below if you have a Spotify account.
