[News] The Chieftains collaborate with Bon Iver, The Decemberists, and more

The Chieftains are to celebrate their 50th year in 2012 with a new studio album featuring collaborations with a host of, as they put it, "like-minded musical visionaries and kindred spirits." to answer your obvious question of "who are these kindred spirits?!", here you go: Titled Voice of Ages, it's set to feature the collaborative efforts of Justin Vernon and Bon Iver, The Decemberists, Carolina Chocolate Drops, The Civil Wars, Paolo Nutini, The Low Anthem, The Secret Sisters, and Lisa Hannigan and many more. To me, it sounds like a musical cauldron of promiscuity that will result in musical babies of joy, but that's just me.

Along with that the band have announced a rather large tour of the U.S. for early next year rolling into the UK later in 2012 for more dates. Check them out after the jump.

Voice of Ages is set for release on the 21st of February through Hear/Concorde.

[Listen] The Decemberists - "Foregone" x "Burying Davy"

Just two days ago we got to hear the second preview of what was to come from the new EP Long Live the King from The Decemberists. Today we get two more. Yes, two whole new tracks leaving just two that won't have been heard prior to the EP release next week on November 1st. First up is "Forgone" which you can head over here to check out courtesy of our buddies at Antiquiet. [Listen] The Decemberists - "E. Watson"

As we previously reported, The Decemberists are to release a follow up to their warmly received The King is Dead LP with an EP featuring some leftovers. We already had a listen to their Grateful Dead Cover of "Row Jimmy" and today you can listen to another track set to feature on the EP, "E. Watson". You can listen to the track over on Paste. We'd embed it but Brightcove players suck hard. Seriously.

The EP titled Long Live the King is set to drop on Halloween/November 1st via Capitol Records.
