[Listen] Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse - "Dark Night Of The Soul" (Full Album)

NPR Music is streaming the long awaited release of Danger Mouse & Sparklehorse Dark Night Of The Soul. You can hear the long-delayed album in its entirety above.

Danger Mouse and Mark Linkous (a.k.a. Sparklehorse) first came up with the idea for Dark Night of the Soul while working together on the 2006 Sparklehorse album Dreamt for Light Years in the Belly of a Mountain. Linkous had written a number of songs he wasn't comfortable singing, so Danger Mouse suggested getting someone else to do the vocals. The result is an all-star cast of guest artists on Dark Night, including The Shins' James Mercer (who most recently worked with Danger Mouse on the Broken Bells album), Julian Casablancas of The Strokes and Iggy Pop, each of whom offers his own interpretation of the Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse songs.

The Deluxe Version of DNOTS includes a 48-page book with visuals by David Lynch, a poster, postcards, two LPs, a CD and a bonus instrumental CD. That sounds awesome!

[Watch] Broken Bells Perform "Insane Lullaby" off Dark Night of The Soul

Consequence of Sound posted an awesome video of James Mercer and Danger Mouse, who form the amazing band Broken Bells, covering the Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse track "Insane Lullaby" that Mercer guested on for KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic.

Mercer also confirmed during his radio appearance that not only been working on new Shins material between tours with Broken Bells, but that a studio is now being set up to record said material. Can you say awesome?

We highly suggest that you can pick up a physical copy of Dark Night of the Soul when it sees release on July 13th.

RIP Sparklehorse/Mark Linkous

Its really fucked up to hear about talented musicians that leave us early, especially the man that was Sparklehorse, Mark Linkous. Today Linkous commited suicide, our hearts go out to family and friends of Mark as myself and Kibbe were huge Dark Night Of The Soul fans.

Rolling Stone:

Singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Mark Linkous has committed suicide, his publicist confirms to Rolling Stone. Best known for his acclaimed work with Sparklehorse, who released four albums of imaginative ambient psych-folk, Linkous also produced Daniel Johnston’s 2003 album Fear Yourself and collaborated with Danger Mouse on Dark Night of the Soul. His exact age is unknown, but he was in his forties. “It is with great sadness that we share the news that our dear friend and family member, Mark Linkous, took his own life today,” reads a statement from his family. “We are thankful for his time with us and will hold him forever in our hearts. May his journey be peaceful, happy and free. There’s a heaven and there’s a star for you.”
