[SONG OF THE DAY] Curtis Lowe - "Automatic"

It’s VIBE O’CLOCK ON FRIDAY, do you know where your next favorite bop is?
Don’t worry, I gotchu fam.
NY fam knows the wonders that is electro-rock outfit locals VHS Collection, but you may have missed that guitarist Connor Cook has started an electronic side project, which he operates under the name Curtis Lowe. Late November of last year he rolled out his debut single, “Breaking Me”, an elegant house track featuring vocals from Naomi Wild. This new track, “Automatic” is a hypnotic floor filler with 90s era-esque house vibes and features vocals from Ben Duffy of the band longtime loved by SKOA, Fenech-Soler.
Both tracks come from the somewhat-aptly titled, Sad Bangers Vol. 1, which out on January 25th. The EP was produced entirely by Cook and (no shocker here) played all the guitar featured on it as well. Speaking on the EP, Cook says, “ I drew a lot of the inspiration for the sonics of the project from 90’s/Chicago house music, married with modern production elements, and darker songwriting themes. Organic instrumental performances are an important part of these songs as well. “ He went on to add, “The EP features tons of guitar, sax, and analog synths (Juno 106, SH101, Prophet, and Moog Sub 37 etc), alongside plenty of 909 samples. I’m really excited about the collaborations on this EP and look forward to releasing a lot more music in the coming months.”

Fenech-Soler To Postpone UK Tour After Singer Announces Battle With Cancer
Ugh. One small victory for MCA + Beastie Boys, one temporary setback for Fenech-Soler.
Over the weekend, it was announced on Fenech-Soler's website that singer Ben Duffy was recently diagnosed with testicular cancer. The silver lining to the diagnosis is that it's at an early stage and the physicians involved believe he will make a swift recovery after treatment. However, since Ben will need to do a round of chemotherapy, their current UK tour has subsequently been postponed until he is back on his feet.
Tickets will still be valid for the postponed shows once new dates are announced. Doctors believe he will be in tip top shape in time for a slew of summer festival gigs that have been announced already, including Lovebox, Bestival, Camp Bestival, Parklife, Ibiza Rocks, Pukkelpop and Oxegen.
Cancer totally sucks. Ben, here's to a swift recovery, friend. KICK CANCER'S SORRY ASS!
If you want to show your support, I would suggest Tweeting and Facebooking Ben some love.

Check out the UK boys, Fenech Soler taking a step into the BBC Radio One Live Lounge and putting in, as to be expected at this point, a great cover version of a popular song. This time it wasn't the Rihanna, or Gaga or even Cheryl Cole (which we heard Adele tear apart and do a roaring cover of just the other week). Instead the boys took on, but the hotly tipped Jessie J, and her tune "Do it Like A Brother". Take a listen to their rendition of it below adding some nice piano work at the intro with what sounds like an electric harp too! Nice touch guys. More indie than diva pop but overall a pretty nice rendition. Check it out and to pick put eh guys album you can simply head over in this direction.
