[Listen] Benjamin Francis Leftwich - "With A Little Help From My Friends" (Beatles Cover)
We know that Benjamin Francis Leftwich has a penchant for covering Beatles track, he did a wonderful job earlier in the year of covering their track "Ticket To Ride". Today he's feeling generous and offered up an interesting take on "With A Little Help From My Friends". I say interesting because it was recorded in a hotel room with his travelling recording kit. See the above photo for evidence. The reason he decided to let loose the track is that this Summer he'll be going rogue at a number of Festival's around the UK and is currently running a competition where the winner gets a private gig at their tent at any of the festivals he's playing. Expect some extra people surrounding around your tent if you win! Take a listen to the track below and head to his official site for the full details on how to be in with a chance of having Ben play your tent.
[Watch] The Flaming Lips - "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" Feat. Nels Cline (Beatles Cover)
Yesterday we got to hear one of the collaborations Wayne Coyne and his gang The Flaming Lips had been working on with Bon Iver. Today comes footage of the band performing another cover of The Beatles. Remember the "I Am The Walrus" cover over the holidays where they're all high as kites? This is a little more tame, and by that I mean they're not wrapped in special blankets and rocking back and fourth between licking weird objects. The performance is of the Abbey Road featuring "I Want You (She's So Heavy)" and for the track they have some help from the guitar machine that is Nels Cline of Wilco. Seriously, if you're into guitars and pedals this guy is da bomb. Youtube him if not. The rendition of the track is 17 minutes long and it's bloody good!
Speaking of Wilco, did you see their insanely cool new video featuring Popeye yesterday?!
[Watch] The Flaming Lips - "I Am the Walrus" (Beatles Cover)
Seriously can you imagine what Christmas in the Coyne household must be like? Damn these guys look like they know how to have fun. Psych Explorations of the Future Heart points out that The Flaming Lips recently laid down a cover of The Beatles classic, "I Am the Walrus" at Oklahoma City’s Pink Floor Studio. Fitting seeing as the band are to play some shows with Yoko, Plastic Ono Band at the fifth annual New Year’s Freakout in Oklahoma City.
The video sees the band perform whilst higher than the stars with Steven wrapped in a foil cover, similar to those you get after running a marathon whilst Wayne shouts lyrics through a pink plastic circle of sorts. Apparently he likes the taste of it too as he goes on to lick the crap out of it. Snosberries? The cover itself is pretty solid even though it's missing a little depth from the guitar/bass side of things. See what you make of it at the top and peep the track they did with Yoko from earlier in the month over here. Thanks to CoS for the heads up on this piece of gold.
[Download] Beatles - "Come Together" (A. Skillz Remix)
Here we have the A. Skillz-remix of the Abbey Road-opener “Come Together” which isn't brand new but with the Beatles back catalogue being released on iTunes just this week it arrived at a good time. I knew that Beatles tracks can work well when mixed and thrown into other situations and genres, the prefect example would be Danger Mouse's mashup of their White Album with Jay Z's Black album fittingly named the Grey Album. If you've never heard it go Google it and have a listen, it's a good mash-up. Check out A. Skillz additions of breaks and tempo changes. He also did a larger mini mix of more of John, Paul, Ringo and George's tracks which you can listen to here. For more of A. Skillz tracks head on over to his Myspace. Enjoy.

[Download] Beach Boys vs Dilla - Pet Sounds: In The Key of Dee
The jist of this post comes to light mainly due to EMI's attempt to shut down the Wu Tang vs Beatles Mash Up by Tom Caruana and Tea Side Records. You may have came across the album back in January, when nearly every blog was raving about how wonderful this album is. The album got so popular that EMI, who holds the copyright on The Beatles' catalog , got word and started sending cease and desist letters (a la Danger Mouse and The Grey Album) in which the album got taken down from the Tea Side website. Unfortunately, due to the current situation, we are unable to post a direct link to the album and instrumentals. However, if you search on google you can pretty much run across the album or if you are on twitter do a subject search under #WuWednesday and you are sure to run across a post or 2.
But anyways we do have some good news. I recently came across this amazing album which is very reminiscent of Wu vs Beatles album and The Grey Album and its called Pet Sounds: In The Key of Dee by Bullion. This mashup takes the already awesome Beach Boys album Pet Sounds and remixes it in the style of the late great legend J Dilla. We highly recommend this album to anyone who is into the Beatles mashups. So check it out and enjoy!
